Clubs and Activities

Extracurricular opportunities contribute a great deal to the vibrant campus environment at Mount Saint Mary Academy. Many clubs meet during the school’s activities period between 2:30 and 3:15pm, allowing students who take the bus to easily participate. Other activities are more involved and require an additional commitment of time. If students are interested in beginning a club that is not currently available, the Mount offers them the opportunity to start one. Each club and activity is coordinated by a dedicated faculty moderator.

  • American Sign Language (ASL) Club

    Join the ASL Club and learn to communicate in a whole new way! Students will learn the American Manual Alphabet and conversational ASL. From seasonal signs to games and even performing a song in ASL for Catholic Schools Week, this student-led club is all about connection, creativity, and fun.
  • Art Club

    A welcoming space for anyone who loves to create! Come when you can, work on your own project, or try out a fun prompt or group activity. Led by students, each meeting offers a chance to explore new ideas, get inspired, and make something beautiful together.
  • Book Club

    Book Club is the perfect place for readers to relax, connect, and share their love of stories. Members help choose the books, read excerpts together, and lead lively discussions about meaningful moments and themes. Whether you bring a favorite book from home or discover something new in the library, every meeting is a chance to unwind, chat, and enjoy good company!
  • Buddies on the Hill

    Buddies on the Hill is teamed up with Falcons & Friends, a club at Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, where we work with kids, teens, and adults with special needs to put on a variety of events such as sports, exercises, and themed activities throughout the school year.
  • Chemistry Club

    The Chemistry Club gives students a chance to plan and explore a variety of chemistry-focused activities and seasonal experiments that go beyond the classroom. Members get to experience the fun, creative, and practical applications of chemistry in everyday life. Open to all students, the club offers a relaxed environment where curiosity and discovery take center stage.
  • Cybersecurity Club

    Are you interested in computers, technology, and digital defense? The Cybersecurity Club provides a hands-on, no experience necessary environment for students to learn fundamental skills regarding the importance of technology and security. Come get cyber-secure with us!
  • Dance Club

    Students work together to learn choreographed routines that will culminate in competition during the spring.
  • Drama Club

    Step into the spotlight with the Drama Club! Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just curious about acting, this club is all about creativity, confidence, and fun. Join us for improv sessions, audition workshops, and monologue prep for acting competitions like the Teen Arts Festival. Come when you can, express yourself, and build your stage presence in a supportive, collaborative space!
  • Environmental Club

    The Environmental Club is all about taking action to protect our planet, starting right here at the Mount! Members work together on hands-on projects that make our school and community more sustainable, from campus clean-ups to local environmental initiatives. We also take part in community Environmental Action Days alongside other schools. Come share your ideas, get your hands dirty, and help make a greener, cleaner future - one small step at a time!
  • Fashion Club

    Love style, design, or all things creative? Fashion Club is your runway to explore trends, create mood boards, and learn about designers - all in a fun, student-led space. Come when you can and bring your ideas to life!
  • French Club

    Experience the joy of French culture - no passport required! From delicious treats like macarons and crêpes to fun language games and art activities inspired by famous French artists, this club brings France to life. French Club is a welcoming space to explore language, culture, and creativity!
  • Future Medical Professionals Club

    Curious about what it’s really like to work in medicine? The Future Medical Professionals Club gives you a hands-on look into the world of healthcare! From dissecting hearts, brains, and “zombie pigs” to learning suturing techniques and CPR, this club is full of fascinating (and sometimes messy) experiences. You’ll also meet guest speakers like EMTs, nurses, and pharmacists who share real-world insights. Come when you can - every meeting brings something new, and attending makes you eligible for the incredible Rutgers Medical School cadaver trip!
  • Girls Who Code

    Love solving puzzles, cracking logic challenges, or learning how computers think? Join Girls Who Code and get hands-on practice while preparing for the American Computer Science League (ACSL)! We compete in four online contests coding in Python 3, Java, or C++. No experience required — just curiosity and teamwork.
  • H.O.P.E. Club

    Helping Other People Everywhere (H.O.P.E.) Club provides students with meaningful opportunities to serve others through volunteerism, outreach, and community service. Members support a variety of local, national, and global organizations, including Cancer Kids First, Operation Smile, Jersey Cares, Save the Children, Teens Tackling Homelessness, and Sunshine for Seniors. The club also maintains a special commitment to the Sisters of Mercy residing on campus through visits, letters, art projects, and activities such as BINGO. Throughout the year, members organize donation drives and service initiatives that promote compassion, generosity, and the Mercy Core Value of service to those in need.
  • Investment Club

    Ready to put your money where your mind is? In the Investment Club, teams take on the Wharton Global Investment Competition, managing a virtual $100,000 portfolio while making real-world investment decisions. You’ll research companies, analyze markets, and submit reports just like professional investors. It’s fast-paced, competitive, and a great way to sharpen your financial skills!
  • Italian Club

    The Italian Club celebrates the culture, traditions, and fun of Italy through student-led activities open to all. Members might watch Italian movies, play card games, test their knowledge with trivia games, and even share food together. The Italian Club offers a relaxed and welcoming way to enjoy Italian culture while building community.
  • Latin Club

    Step into the world of ancient Rome with the Latin Club! Play fun games, celebrate with holiday parties, and dive into Roman history while sharpening your Latin skills. Meetings follow Roman history in order, giving you a deeper understanding of the world behind the language, and a leg up if you’re eyeing the AP test!
  • Lion Nation

    Lion Nation is a spirited club that promotes school pride by documenting events, supporting athletics, and collaborating with Mount’s social media platforms. Members help plan and execute appearances at multiple school-sanctioned events like, but not limited to, Pep Rallies, Athletic Senior Nights, and Open House, while also assisting Student Council and school leadership with decorations and event support. Lion Nation is ideal for enthusiastic students who enjoy leadership, creativity, and showcasing the energy of Mount Saint Mary Academy.
  • Maker Club

    The Maker Club is all about creativity, exploration, and hands-on fun. With new STEAM-based projects every couple of weeks, members get to experiment with 3D printing, laser cutting, upcycling, and more. No competition, just imagination! It’s the perfect spot to design, tinker, and bring your ideas to life.
  • Marketing Club

    The Marketing Club is the creative force behind how the Mount community stays connected and informed. Members explore the exciting world of marketing while developing skills in creativity, communication, branding, and design through hands-on projects that make a real impact on campus. From creating eye-catching displays to managing the school's clubs and activities bulletin boards and the monthly events calendar, the Marketing Club helps promote everything happening at the Mount. Whether you're interested in business, design, social media, or simply love bringing ideas to life, this club offers a fun and collaborative way to build valuable skills while helping make school events impossible to miss!
  • Math League

    The MSMA Math League is all about exploring the fun and challenge of mathematics beyond the classroom. Members sharpen their problem-solving skills through games, discussions, and practice with competition-style questions, while also learning about the history and creativity behind math. Students can compete at their grade level with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Math Olympiad. Whether you’re aiming for recognition or just love tackling tough problems, Math League is a place to learn, grow, and challenge yourself!
  • Morgan's Message

    Morgan’s Message is a student-led club dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, fostering open conversations, and creating a supportive community where all students, with a concentration on student-athletes, feel safe, valued, and empowered. Members work together to plan mental health initiatives, dedication games, educational presentations, and engaging activities that encourage wellness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Through leadership, advocacy, and peer support, Morgan's Message inspires students to prioritize both their physical and mental well-being while building a culture of compassion, understanding, and resilience throughout the Mount community.
  • Peer Ministry Club

    The Peer Ministry Club is a faith-driven group that helps bring the Mercy Core Values to life through action, service, and reflection. Members take the lead in organizing events, spreading awareness about justice, compassion, and ethical living. It’s also a great first step for anyone hoping to apply for the Peer Ministry Leadership Team. Show up, get involved, and make your faith active in the Mount community!
  • Ping Pong Club

    We play and we play hard. Come and hone your skills. The club holds regular tournaments, and all equipment is provided. All experience levels are welcome.
  • Poetry & Creative Writing Club

    The Poetry & Creative Writing Club is a welcoming space for students to express themselves through fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Members bring their own prompts, share original work in monthly readings, and workshop pieces with peers for publication in Echoes, Mount Saint Mary Academy’s literary magazine. With flexible attendance and student-led meetings, the club adapts to its members’ interests each year, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and growth as writers.
  • Respect Life Club

    The Respect Life Club is dedicated to celebrating and protecting the dignity of every human life, from conception to natural death. Members take part in meaningful service projects and advocacy efforts throughout the year, including drives, guest speakers, reflection opportunities, and trips that bring our mission to life. This club offers a powerful way to put faith into action - come when you can and make a real difference!
  • Set Design, Stage Crew, and Technical Theater Club

    Love being behind the scenes? Join the Set Design & Technical Theater Club to help bring our school productions to life! From painting and building to lighting and sound, there’s something for every creative mind and helping hand. Come when you can, learn new skills, and help transform an empty stage into a world of imagination — safely and collaboratively.
  • Ski Club

    Hit the slopes with friends for our annual Ski Club trip! Whether you are a seasoned skier, a first-time snowboarder, or just there for the hot cocoa, this day on the mountain is always a highlight of the year. Lessons are available, so everyone can join in the fun - no experience required!
  • Spanish Club

    Celebrate the rich language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world! The Spanish Club offers a fun, welcoming space for all students, no matter your level, to enjoy games, conversations, cultural activities, and service projects. Join us to connect, learn, and share la alegría of Spanish together!
  • Weather Club

    Fascinated by the sky and how it impacts daily life? The Weather Club is for anyone curious about the skies above us. From making forecasts for Friday announcements to fun contests, projects, and even storm photography, members get a hands-on look at how weather shapes our world. Come chase the clouds with us!
  • Women's Empowerment Club

    Celebrate the strength, stories, and successes of women past and present! This club is all about learning from inspiring female leaders, supporting one another, and exploring what it means to be a woman in today’s world. Join us to build confidence, spark conversations, and uplift each other every step of the way.

  • Chimes

    The yearbook committee is responsible for putting together a high-quality, inclusive, and engaging yearbook for the school year. The staff works together to create a yearbook that is both timeless and reflective of the school community, capturing key moments, milestones, and the overall spirit of the academic year. The committee designs, writes, takes candid photos, and creates a yearly theme for Chimes. There is an emphasis on time management, teamwork, and design principles, and students must follow four key deadline dates throughout the school year, ensuring consistent progress and timely completion. Students involved must be able to stay after school until at least 3:30 p.m. and attend consistently.
  • Civic Engagement Club

    Civic Engagement, formerly known as Junior State of America (JSA), is a non-partisan youth organization that fosters active participation in the democratic processes and civic responsibility. This club provides a platform for students to engage in debates and thought talks on social and political issues, encouraging critical thinking and public discourse. Additionally, members will examine how bills become laws, which will help students understand the functions of government.

    The club also collaborates with the AP U.S. Government and Politics (APGOPO) classes to educate the school community on essential topics like the history of voting rights, and the election process. Students will have an opportunity to enhance their skills at Civic Leaders of America conferences. If you are interested in government and politics, like to debate, or just want to take a more active role in civics, this is the club for you!
  • Echoes

    Echoes is MSMA’s award-winning literary magazine, showcasing the creativity and imagination of our students. Staff members collaborate to write, edit, and design a publication that celebrates original voices and fresh ideas. No prior experience is necessary - just a love for creative expression and a willingness to dive in!
  • Euro Challenge

    Mount Saint Mary Academy's Euro Challenge Team gives 9th and 10th grade students the chance to dive into economics and international affairs through a national competition. Team members work together to research and analyze an economic issue facing a European country, then present their findings in a dynamic, newscast-style presentation. Students sharpen their knowledge of the Euro and European economy, practice public speaking, and learn to think on their feet during Q&A sessions. Commitment is key; members meet weekly, set goals, and contribute to team prep both in and out of meetings. Tryouts may be required to join the seven-person team.
  • Fall Production - Play

    The Fall Production is Mount Saint Mary Academy's annual play, offering students the chance to shine on stage or work behind the scenes. Open to all grades, the production begins in September with auditions for speaking roles and sign-ups for crew positions. Cast and crew collaborate to bring the play to life and share their talents with the Mount community. Saturday attendance required.
  • Fed Challenge

    The High School Fed Challenge offers 11th and 12th grade students the chance to dive deep into economics while building real-world skills in research, analysis, data literacy, and collaboration. Students investigate economic trends, craft a research paper, and prepare a submission for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Journal of Future Economists. With weekly goals, team accountability, and moderator guidance, students gain both discipline and discovery as they prepare for competition. Tryouts may be required.
  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

    Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, business, and career-readiness skills through hands-on experiences, competitive events, and professional development. Members strengthen their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership abilities while exploring a variety of business-related fields. Students have the opportunity to compete at the regional level, with those who qualify advancing to the National Leadership Conference. FBLA is an excellent opportunity for students interested in developing the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to become ethical, community-minded leaders in an ever-changing global society.
  • Grace Notes

    Grace Notes is Mount Saint Mary Academy’s select vocal ensemble, open to all students through audition. Known for its a cappella style, the group highlights strong musical talent and blends voices in performances throughout the year.
  • Handbell Choir

    Chiming in! The Handbell Choir is a unique musical ensemble open to any student with the ability, or the eagerness to learn, to read music. Members develop technique, coordination, and precision as they work together to create a rich, harmonious sound. Performing several times throughout the year, the Handbell Choir brings a distinctive and beautiful dimension to the Mount’s musical life.
  • Mock Trial

    The Mock Trial Team is your chance to bring drama to the courtroom! Whether you want to argue like a lawyer, act it out as a witness, or help out as a juror, you’ll work with teammates to build a case and then face off against other schools in real courtroom competitions. Along the way, you’ll sharpen your public speaking, quick thinking, and debate skills, all while putting your opponents on the spot. Practices and scrimmages lead to presenting your case at the Somerset County Courthouse competition.
  • MSMA Podcast

    The MSMA Podcast gives students the opportunity to develop skills in storytelling, communication, interviewing, and digital media by producing the school's official podcast. Members collaborate to plan, record, edit, and promote episodes that highlight the Mount Saint Mary Academy experience through student voices, faculty features, alumnae stories, and topics that showcase the Mount’s community and values. The club provides a creative outlet for students interested in media production while helping prospective families discover what makes the Mount a unique place to learn and grow!
  • NASA HUNCH Program

    The NASA Hunch Program takes classroom creativity to the next level—straight to space. Students choose between two tracks: Culinary, where you dream up and test recipes that could one day be eaten by astronauts, or Design & Prototype, where you engineer real-world solutions to challenges faced in space. Whether you love food, design, or just tackling big challenges, NASA Hunch gives you a chance to make an out-of-this-world impact!
  • National Honor Society

    The National Honors Society (NHS) recognizes juniors and seniors who have demonstrated outstanding performance in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 at the end of the first semester of their junior year for NHS consideration.
  • Peeks

    Peeks is MSMA’s very own student-run newspaper, created by and for the Mount community. From covering campus events to reporting on world news, students bring stories to life through writing, photography, and design. Whether you’re a budding journalist, a creative eye for layout and graphics, or simply passionate about all things Mount, Peeks offers a chance to share your voice and make an impact—join us!
  • Peer Facilitators

    Peer Facilitators are leaders who help make the Mount community stronger, kinder, and more connected. They guide freshmen through their high school transition, lead discussions on important topics like stress, friendship, and wellness, and organize school-wide activities that support a positive culture. Becoming a Peer Facilitator is a privilege that comes with responsibility - members are chosen through an application and interview process each spring. Active participation and strong communication are required. If you’re passionate about helping others and want to make a real difference, this is the group for you!
  • Peer Leadership Ministry Team

    The Peer Ministry Leadership Team helps lead the spiritual life of the Mount! Members plan and guide retreats, liturgies, morning prayers, and service events that bring our faith to life on campus. This is a hands-on leadership role for students who want to make a difference through faith, reflection, and community. An application and interview are required, and participation in the Peer Ministry Club is encouraged before applying.
  • Robotics

    Robotics brings together creative thinkers, builders, and problem-solvers to design, build, and program robots for real-world challenges. Whether you are into engineering, coding, or teamwork, there’s a place for you on the team! Together, we prepare for an exciting annual competition that pushes our skills and imagination. Get ready for a fun, fast-paced experience where innovation and collaboration take center stage!
  • Speech and Debate

    The Speech and Debate Team gives students the chance to sharpen their voices, strengthen their critical thinking, and compete against top schools across New Jersey. Team members meet weekly to research, write, and practice, preparing for Saturday competitions that run from fall through spring. Speech events range from quick-thinking talks on current events to powerful dramatic performances, while debate events challenge students to craft persuasive arguments in formats like Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Student Congress. With opportunities to qualify for the National Tournament in Washington, D.C., the Speech and Debate Team offers a rewarding experience in leadership, teamwork, and communication.
  • Spring Production - Musical

    The Spring Musical is one of the Mount's biggest traditions, open to all students who want to perform on stage or contribute behind the scenes. Auditions and crew sign-ups begin in December, followed by early rehearsals before Christmas break. Once the new year begins, daily rehearsals, including some Saturdays, bring the cast and crew together to prepare for an unforgettable production that showcases our community’s talent and spirit.
  • Student Council

    Student Council encourages the development of self-government and mature initiative in every student through efficient leadership, high ideals, and the power of good example. As officers and members of the Mount Saint Mary Academy Student Council these students are expected to give their time and energy to the promotion of scholarship, sportsmanship, and friendship among all the girls enrolled in Mount Saint Mary Academy.
  • Students of Color Affinity Group (SOCA)

    Students of Color Affinity Group (SOCA) is a space for Students of Color to meet, connect, share resources, and discuss events and topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This group is led by MSMA's DEI consultant, Dr. Diana Artis, and Olive Branch Educators.

  • Freshmen Student Council

    The Freshman Student Council, working in collaboration with the Executive Board, empowers freshmen students to plan, organize, and carry out events that bring their class together. From supporting the Junior Ring Mass to helping host the Freshmen Semi-Formal and planning the Big/Little Sister Social, council members play an active role in shaping their high school experience while building class spirit and tradition.
  • Sophomore Student Council

    The Sophomore Student Council brings the class together by planning fun and meaningful events throughout the year. From Friendsgiving and Galentine’s to the End-of-Year Party and Soph Hop Dance, council members collaborate to create memorable experiences for their classmates. Students take the lead in organizing activities, working on everything from event themes and decorations to music, food, and entertainment, all while building class spirit and teamwork.
  • Junior Student Council

    The Junior Student Council takes on some of the Mount's most meaningful traditions while creating special memories for their class. From planning the Junior Ring Ceremony to organizing the Big Sister/Little Sister Social, council members play a key role in building school spirit. They also lead the way in class-wide events, like the Junior-class Halloween Costume, and take on major responsibilities for Prom. Through teamwork and leadership, juniors bring their class traditions to life.
  • Senior Student Council

    The Senior Student Council gives seniors the opportunity to shape their final year by planning and leading activities that celebrate their class spirit. From Senior Tailgates and Field Day to Senior Privileges, the Senior Trip, and the excitement of Senior Week, council members work together to make their last year at Mount Saint Mary Academy memorable and meaningful.
