Places of Worship on Campus

The Immaculate Conception Chapel in the original 1908 building was on the first floor where the parlor is today. From the breaking of the ground in June 1953, to the laying of the cornerstone in June 1954, and the dedication on June 11, 1955, it is a place of beauty with its marble statues, decorative mosaics, and stained glass windows telling the life of Our Lady. The Chapel is the site of many important Mount Saint Mary Academy traditions, including regular liturgies, Junior Ring Mass, and graduation. It also serves as the venue for many alumnae weddings.

Mount Saint Mary Academy opened a chapel on the third floor of the St. Joseph's Building in January 2017. S. Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S., Directress, was inspired to open the chapel to emphasize an awareness of God's presence for students who spend a lot of time in the St. Joseph's Building where all theology classes are held.

Through guided meditations and Adoration, students have a place to relax in chairs or cushions and reflect with friends. The artwork in the chapel was created by a past art teacher and past members of the Art Honor Society.

The chapel was dedicated in honor of S. Mary Eloise Claire, a devoted Sister of Mercy, a mentor, and friend of the Academy. 

"S. Mary Eloise Claire was fun loving, kind, and gentle," said S. Lisa. "She did a great deal for the Academy, such as starting peer ministry, student assistance program, and was ahead of her time in educational innovation. Under her direction, the Mount became a Blue Ribbon School and was recognized by the National Department of Education. Loved by all who knew her...her love of God and the Sisters of Mercy was evident the minute you met her."
