Wellness Center

Wellness Center

The Mount Saint Mary Academy community opened a Wellness Center in room J421 in the Saint Joseph's Building which provides students, faculty, staff, and Sisters with resources to enhance their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

The goal of the center is to offer visitors a tranquil environment to unplug and proactively seek wellness. Faculty and staff members who monitor the center are equipped to teach students stress-management methods such as deep breathing exercises and guided visualizations. A Zen garden, relaxation mats, meditation cushions, and other therapeutic and spiritual manipulatives are available for use. There is a "tech check" for visitors to place cell phones, and tablets are not permitted. Calming music, a water feature, colorful tapestries, and lamp lighting in the center encourage introspection, relaxation, and focus.

Students are welcome to visit the center during operating hours on their free periods; visits to the center during class periods are not permitted. Upon arrival, students sign in and be greeted by the faculty/staff monitor, who ask the student what she would like to do. The monitor directs the student to the various resources available.

In this age of excessive screen time and increasingly high levels of stress and anxiety, we hope that this new endeavor will provide Mounties with a haven to unwind, look within, and build resilience for years to come.

"I loved the meditations, the Zen garden, the essential oils and pretty much everything in it. It was overall super helpful and it was a nice break from all of the stress that I was experiencing."

"I enjoyed the coloring activities and sitting on pillows just in silence to clear my mind."
