Student Assistance Program

Mount Saint Mary Academy recognizes that adolescence can be a challenging time for all young people. Our complicated and stressful world of technology and high-pace days can be difficult to navigate while also balancing school, activities, friendships, and growing pains. The MSMA Student Assistance Program provides confidential individual, group, and family supportive counseling and referrals for students who may desire some support in handling life’s stressors. The Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) offers counseling support on a wide range of issues including stress management, developing healthy coping skills, and crisis intervention.  Other issues that students may seek support for from the SAC are:

  • Self-Esteem
  • Anger Management
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship Issues (Friends, Dating, etc.)
  • Family Problems
  • Body Image
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use/Abuse
The Student Assistance Program at the Mount, led by our SAC, Kathleen Ketofsky, LCSW also focuses on prevention activities such as grade level Wellness Seminars, health class presentations on making healthy decisions, and our annual Senior Safety Seminar. Ms. Ketofsky regularly updates the myMSMA Resources board with tips and suggestions for students and parents on ways to cope and maintain wellness, organizes assemblies on important adolescent topics, and provides parent education programs.

Students or parents who wish to seek counseling support at school may  self-refer to our SAC, Ms. Ketofsky or be referred by a teacher, counselor, parent, friend, or Administrator.
