Convocation Ushers in 2024-2025 Academic Year

Following the traditional "clapping in" of the Class of 2028 from the Mount Building to the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, the school year was officially ushered in at Convocation.

Jacqueline Muratore (Assistant Directress for Faculty, Curriculum, and Planning) extended a warm welcome to students before introducing new faculty/staff members. Peer Ministers described the Mercy Core Values to the student body, reminding all to act with mercy and kindness throughout the year. After the recitation of the Suscipe of Catherine McAuley, a special speech was read by Sister Lisa D. Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S. (Directress).

Sister reflected on an experience this summer when she observed bees in her garden that were collaborating and gentle. She compared them to "queen bees" and "wanna bees" and said that there is no room for such a variety of bees at the Mount. Instead, the Mount reflects a culture of compassion and collaboration, reflective of the Mercy Core Values.

She said, "Being part of a Christian community is not the result of an ethical choice or some lofty idea. It is an encounter with God and one another. Every act of kindness is an encounter with God. Hopefully, you will have many here at the Mount."

"We have begun our 116th year of educating young women in the home of the Sisters of Mercy. We are on a journey together and many students have gone before you. They helped pave the way - giving us a heritage of faithfulness contributing to the legacy of this Academy," stated Sister Lisa. "Let us now leave our footprints up and over this hill. Let's 'pollinate' our minds and hearts as one school community - surrounded by the greatest of Administration, faculty, staff, student body, and alumnae. "Let us forge our path this year together as Mount Pack -- humble yet proud Lions! Have a great school year. We are MOUNT PACK!"

Before the conclusion of Convocation, members of the Student Council Executive Board shared details about this year's Mercy Girl Effect which will benefit the Young Mothers Club in Kenya. Please click here to view a copy of the plans for this year's Mercy Girl Effect project.
