A new club at Mount Saint Mary Academy, Women of the Word is a Bible study group which aims to be a welcoming environment for all students who are interested in connecting with their peers on a spiritual level. While students learn about scripture in Sophomore Theology class, Women of the Word offers opportunities for students to look at scripture in a more casual setting with other students who are also interested in growing in their faith. The group is open to all students, regardless of their level of experience with scripture. The goal is to find a supportive community where everyone can grow together and learn more about God.
Michelle Kovach, Director of Campus Ministry and moderator of the club, shared, "I was thrilled when the student leaders came to me with this idea. I taught scripture for many years and while I loved working with my students every day in the classroom setting, I also know that our relationship with God can develop through many different avenues. I'm excited for students to have the opportunity to come together in a shared community of faith to learn about the heart of God through the Bible."
Fiona Cogan '27 said, "Women of the Word is a club Mary, Maddy and I started to provide a safe space for girls wanting to deepen their faith. We want to build a community centered around Jesus and faith, by starting our club we are striving to do that."
"Women of the Word was created to introduce a community where any girls can bond and lean on one another for growth of our faith — no matter where we are starting with Jesus," added Maddison Cudia '26. "Our personal relationships with Jesus can flourish as we surround ourselves with community, and what better way to build friendships with our sisters in Christ, while embarking on our own journeys with God, diving into the closeness with Him we are made for. We've kicked off the year by making hands-on crafts, such as painting tote bags with inspiration verses or quotes and split into small groups to discuss Bible passages around themes such as recognizing our spiritual gifts and the threat of comparison."
“I think this is a beautiful community to have at Mount, to strengthen a sisterhood rooted in faith and support," said Mary Agugliaro '25. "We are so blessed to have the spirit of Mercy on campus, and this is just another way to incorporate that mission into our student life here at the Mount!”
