Echoes literary magazine has been recognized as an “Excellent” distinction magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
This year, schools in 46 states and five countries nominated 375 student magazines. Magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed for the 2023 contest.
The 2023 -2024 Echoes staff of the Metamorphosis edition included: June Gill ’24, Victoria (Tori) Fekete ’24, Sofiya Piede ’24, Megan Quraishi '25, and Zoe Schack ’24.
Dr. Joseph Bonk, English Department Chairperson, added how remarkable the Metamorphosis editorial staff has been in terms of its “ability to synthesize abstract ideas into a finalized concrete project.”
Zoe said, “I’m so proud of all our amazing editors and staff members who made Metamorphosis the work that it is. I’m also incredibly grateful for all the students who took the initiative to contribute to our magazine with their writing and art, since with their help, it became something truly representative of what Mounties believe, value, and appreciate.”
“It is such an honor to receive this recognition from NCTE!” said Tori. “This is a reflection of both the hard work of our members and editors and the creativity and talent of our Mount community. Each year, we look forward to each and every submission, as it’s such a beautiful thing to see and showcase the works of our peers, so it means so much to have that work recognized.”
Megan added, "The Echoes team extends a huge thank you to all the contributors to our magazine. It is truly an amalgamation of the unique voices and talents of our student body. We hope that you enjoy!"
The NCTE’s REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and the American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
